Reduce driver fatigue & distraction with EROAD Clarity Edge
Driving is the #1 cause of workplace fatalities in Australia & New Zealand1
Your biggest risk is not falls from height, or chemical exposure. It’s driving. Additionally, nearly 20%2 of fatal road crashes are caused by driver fatigue.
When your drivers are fatigued or distracted, as well as being more susceptible to accidents, their driving technique suffers.
Reduced attention, vigilance and reaction times can lead to more erratic driving behaviour. Left unchecked, this can lead to costly accidents, higher fuel and maintenance costs as well as damage to brand reputation.
Help protect your drivers, and your business from your biggest risk
EROAD makes it easy for you to see what’s happening across your fleet, at any time. Our easy-to-use and intuitive video portal will let you see driver behaviours at-a-glance, while enabling you to investigate further with automated behaviour tagging and telematic data for rich context. It’s the ideal platform to boost your driver coaching program.

Categorise behaviours automatically
AI automatically tags video clips with the behaviour detected, making it easy to see what’s happening at-a-glance.
3 in 1 solution for driver behaviour, distraction and fatigue
In addition to high-definition footage and harsh driving event capture, our powerful, flexible solution lets you select from three AI-based video monitoring packages: Road, Driver and Fatigue.
-
Road: detect collisions or near misses, following distance and pedestrian proximity alerts.
-
Driver: picks up mobile phone use, distraction, yawning, seatbelt unfastened and smoking.
-
Fatigue: detects yawning, frequent blinking and continuous eye closure >1.5 seconds, even through sunglasses. Delivers instant voice alerts, optional seat vibration alerts and optional human monitoring service.

Fatigue isn’t just ‘falling asleep at the wheel’
Being awake for 18 hours has the same impact on reaction time, vigilance and hand-eye co-ordination as a blood alcohol level of 0.05% (the legal limit in Australia).
It can be hard for humans to identify fatigue is setting in. However, there are several early warning signs before a driver ‘falls asleep at the wheel’. These include:
- Frequent blinking, yawning or rubbing eyes
- Eye closure lasting a few seconds
- Daydreaming, or being more easily distracted
- Being on ‘Autopilot’ when you can’t recall the last few kms
- Drifting from your lane, missing an exit or road sign
Clarity Edge Fatigue offers instant voice and seat vibration alerts, and with email notification pathways and optional phone call notifications – it gives your team an opportunity to intervene and help reduce the risk of accidents.
The importance of taking regular breaks
Fatigue increases the longer you spend driving. Taking a break from driving may seem simple, but it can help to reduce fatigue. Managing driver hours is one of the critical tools used to help prevent or reduce driving tired.
In addition to fatigue monitoring, we have a great solution for Ehubo2 customers to help drivers proactively manage their hours:

What is driver fatigue & distraction costing you?
When your drivers are fatigued or distracted, as well as being more susceptible to accidents, their driving technique suffers.
Reduced attention, vigilance and reaction times can lead to more erratic driving behaviour, such as:
- Swerving
- Following too closely (tailgating)
- Sharp cornering
- Hard braking
- Harsh acceleration
Left unchecked this could lead to:
- Costly accidents, and rising insurance premiums
- Higher fuel costs, through inefficient fuel or energy usage
- Higher maintenance costs through increased wear and tear on tyres and brakes
- Damage to your company brand/reputation, with complaints from the public
